Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix in flour, sugar, and salt until crumbly.
  3. Stir in eggs, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Roll out dough to half an inch thick and cut into squares or rectangles.
  6. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry each piece until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
