- 2 lbs Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 ½ cups aged cheddar cheese, shredded
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, sautéed
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and slice the potatoes about 1/8 inch thick for even cooking.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter; add chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until translucent (about 5 minutes).
- Pour heavy cream into the skillet with onions and garlic; stir in salt, pepper, and nutmeg; let simmer.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices evenly on the bottom. Pour half of the creamy sauce over them and sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, sauce, and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes; then remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
