  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (browned)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the active sourdough starter and flour. Add warm milk until combined; let sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Brown the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden and nutty. Allow it to cool slightly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together sugar, cinnamon, salt, eggs, and vanilla extract. Combine with dough and add browned butter; mix well.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter on top, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, then roll tightly into a log.
  6. Cut into pieces about 1-2 inches thick. Place in a greased baking dish and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Drizzle with icing made from powdered sugar mixed with milk and vanilla extract.
