- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup mixed dried fruits (raisins, currants)
- 1/2 cup toasted nuts (almonds or walnuts)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Warm the milk until lukewarm and combine with yeast; let sit until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Make a well in the center and add yeast mixture and melted butter.
- Mix until combined; knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled.
- Gently fold in dried fruits and nuts. Shape into an oval loaf or two smaller loaves.
- Let rise again on lined baking sheets for 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool completely on wire racks and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
